Yuva Parliament 4 - Saturday, 9th May

Youth power is said to be taking over. As we approach the forthcoming Parliamentary Elections, the widespread disenchantment among India’s youth, is an issue, which we can no longer afford to brush under the carpet
Coming to the forthcoming Parliamentary polls, the youth plays a pivotal role as the Indian electorate of 2009 will be the youngest since 1952. Anticipating the impact that the youth will make this year, various political parties are leaving no stones unturned to lure them. Add to it, the various campaigns launched to inspire the youths to vote. Yes, the youths can make a difference.

Campaigns like Re! One Billion Votes, Lead India, Youngistaan, Sacche ko chune, acche ko chune and others aim at inviting the young bloods to exercise their democratic rights.
But are these initiatives really inspiring enough? If you talk to first-time voters, they are absolutely sure of what they want. But what they are more concerned about is the candidate to vote for.

Yuva Parliament – 4 aims to help the youth of Chandigarh evaluate whom they want to give their valuable vote. We aim to get the Lok Sabha elections-2009 candidates from Chandigarh parliamentary constituency, on a common platform for a face to face discussion. We expect the youth of Chandigarh to listen to these candidates, to question their promises and to evaluate them without being biased.

The contours of Indian politics are changing and the young urban society can indeed impact results. Let us not give ourselves the excuse that we cannot/should not vote because we do not know who’s worthy enough for our vote! Instead lets utilize this platform of Yuva Parliament to question-discuss-brainstorm-evaluate and realize the power of our Vote !
